Alas, the book I was looking for was not there, so I filled in a little piece of paper upstairs and, to my delight, they got the book to me soon. So you best believe that when I got to Hunter College and found that they had a couple of old Norma Klein books, I took the elevator down to East B2 and spun the spinny things to separate the aisles with the hope that I might finally get ahold of her books.

Even the New York Public Library does not allow patrons to check out her books. I might’ve been able to borrow one from another Long Island library through interloan request, but I would be going to college soon, and my interloan request might not be met in time. Surprisingly, I had no luck at my extensive local library. Wondering where the hell Klein had been when I was growing up, I went on the hunt for her books. Apparently, she didn’t hold back in her subject matter - divorce, sexual orientation, (premarital!) sex, affairs and unwanted pregnancy were all on the table, even for young adults, even when dinosaurs were roaming the earth in the 70s and 80s! Of course her books were banned, but that just makes the whole thing all the more scrumptious. Apparently, this lifelong New Yorker’s young adult novels had inspired the curiosity of a generation of girls. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ebenezer Congregational Church, The Capital Humane Society or a charity of your choice.I learned about Norma Klein last summer from an old book of articles that had been published in Bitch magazine. The family will be present to greet friends. Visitation will be 6:00P-8:00P on Monday, Decemat the funeral home. Norma was preceded in death by her parents husband sister, Joann Waldman Larsen numerous in-laws.įuneral Services will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, Decemat Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln 68510. She is survived by daughter, Connie (Mel) Briles, sons, Bob (Cindy) Klein, Jimmy (Terri) Klein, seven grandchildren fifteen great-grandchildren seven great-great-grandchildren nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. She had a 27-year career in the criminal justice system in which she began as a switchboard operator in the Police Department and after many promotions, retired as the Lancaster County Court Clerk.

Norma was a member of Ebenezer Congregational Church and was a founding member of the Shim Sham Senior Tap Dance Troup, tap dancing well into her 80's. 'Speck' Klein on Januand they spent their 73 years of married life in Lincoln. Norma was born on Decemin Lincoln, NE to Katherine Leckei Wilcox and John Leckei. Klein, 94, went home to be with the Lord on December 8, 2021.
